Jorhat Town (JTTN)

Jorhat Town is on the Furkating–Mariani branch line in the Tinsukia division of Northeast Frontier Railway. It's a small two-platform station right in the city. Trains that serve it include:

  • the Guwahati–Jorhat Town Jan Shatabdi Express (12067/12068), with chair car and second sitting
  • intercity and passenger services towards Guwahati, Mariani, Dimapur and Tinsukia

The Jan Shatabdi leaves Guwahati early morning and reaches Jorhat Town around 1 pm. The return leaves Jorhat Town around 2:30 pm and reaches Guwahati around 9:20 pm. Timetables change, so check NTES or IRCTC before you travel.

Mariani Junction (MXN)

About 16 km from the city, Mariani is the district's biggest junction, on the main line towards Dibrugarh. If your train from Delhi, Kolkata or elsewhere doesn't touch Jorhat Town, it probably stops at Mariani. A cab to central Jorhat takes around 30 to 40 minutes. On the way, you pass close to the Gibbon Sanctuary.

From the station to J.B. Road

  • From Jorhat Town: a short ride by auto, e-rickshaw or cab. It's quick unless the market roads are busy.
  • From Mariani: pre-arrange a cab, especially for late-night arrivals.

Tips

  • The Jan Shatabdi's arrival around 1 pm leaves time for an afternoon tea garden walk.
  • Book the chair car (CC) for longer trips. Trains to and from Guwahati fill up around Bihu and Durga Puja.
  • For flights instead, see airport to city.
